Sunshine. Blues.

Today it is raining like a proper winter day in Melbourne and I am feeling a tad under the weather; two good excuses to stay indoors and blog. In winter I like rain and cold, I even harbour secret desires to move to London and spend my days traversing the concrete in black victorian boots, woolen over coats and tartan scarves. But as it happens it is supposed to be summer here at the moment and I was rather enjoying the unusually mild, sunny sping days we've been having.

Brisbane, aside from the weather, remainds me alot of London for some reason. I think it is the wide river, and the open scale view you get of the city from the water.

Here are a few holiday snaps from my Brisbane holiday, at the Southbank galleries...

This is the shift dress I mentioned in the previous post.

Inside GOMA.

Rivane Neuenschwander’s interactive installation, I wish your wish at GOMA.

(Thankyou to Char for taking these nice outfit pics!)

I also made a new friend while I was there...

Hope you have a nice Sunday.

Jean Genie

Hello. Many apologies for my terrible blogging habits over the past week. I have been having some technical problems when it comes to uploading photographs, which is a shame as I wanted to share my new Brisbane vintage 60s shift dress with you. But as this shall have to wait I've decided to share some music musings with you instead. I'm really digging this song at the moment, it's just so up beat and fun and I love that artists - male and female - experimentated with androgeny in the 70s. My favourites androgenies are

David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust: he just looks so shiny and alien and asexual that it's positively erotic

Joan Jett: my super-fav rock lady, she is so hot I would turn gay for her!...and

The New York Dolls: I love that they made wearing make-up and dressing in drag tough and punky turning typical masculine ideals upside down.

I watched 'The Filth And The Fury' the other night and loved it, and since Bowie was loosely connected to the punk movement it got me thinking about how much I love punk and glam and 70s underground music. It was just so interesting and exciting and eploding with energy.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

"Where do the ducks go in winter?"

Hello. Apologies for my lack of posting this week, I have been living it up in Brisbane. After my flight/bus ride/train journey back to cloudy Melbourne today I passed out asleep on the bed for three hours so tonight's post will be short and sweet.
Over the past week I have watched several movies and these were my basic reactions:

1. True Grit = thumbs up
2. The Virgin Suicides = why? + tear
3. Coco Avant Chanel = I wanna rip off my corset and wear pants
4. Control = omg incredible + depression :(

All really awesome films in there own right.

14

The only thing today really means to me is this film.
I expect that long ago when this film is set, the day would have had some charm, because back then most love was expressed though letters and hand kissing (no love making before marriage tsk tsk!) However now it has just become a big ugly gimmick. Sorry to be pessimistic. I don't mean to sound angry - I'm not - I just don't think people should be made to feel lonely and out of the loop just because they are 'single'.

I really believe that plain friendship can be just as, if not more special than romantic love, at least that's my experience so far. I have also recently found a great deal of happiness in respecting my self as a talented independent person. I used to believe that I needed a man to complete me but now I realise that no one can 'complete' you because you must complete yourself.

Anyhoo Picnic At Hanging Rock, if you haven't heard of it, is an iconic Australian film based on a novel by Joan Lindsay and is about a mysterious happening that occurs when a group of school girls visit Hanging Rock for a Valentines Day picnic. I find the cinematography in the film mesmerising. It is highly recommended.

Hope you had a lovely day, whatever you got up to!

Click onto the closet

Hello there. I can't believe it's Sunday again already!
This means that the weekend is almost over and for once I am not too worried because on Tuesday I'm flying up to the sunshine state to visit my beautiful friend Char! Today I started packing up some of my favourite summer things to take away.

Today I also happened across Closet Visit a website that allows you to look inside the closets of 19 stylish women.

Stella's closet is probably one of my favourites from the site. I love the look of wearing pretty feminine dresses with converse sneakers.

 Definitely have a peek.
