Back to the city...

Hey there, I'm back from my hibernation weekend away at the "alternative living festival" Confest in southern NSW. I felt very alive and refreshed when I got home. Confest is basically a big hippie festival where people have the freedom to express themselves in whatever way they like ie. wear strange out there clothing, go naked, openly express their sexuality, practice alternative medicine/healing etc.
At first when I arrived I felt a bit over whelmed because I'd never experienced such an open, alternative atmosphere - being from the city I thought "Oh my gosh I do not fit in here" - I actually felt like I stood out because I looked too straight edged or something - not that people were judgemental though. But then the next day I just said to myself "ok I'm gonna try and enjoy myself and be open minded" and then I started to really enjoy and appreciate the atmosphere.

I got to do and see some awesome things while I was there like:
  • I tried chanting meditation and outdoor yoga
  • went to sleep to the sound of drums
  • had a naked spa and shower out in the open with other people
  • went in a big grey mud puddle
  • painted my body
  • saw people doing naked yoga!
  • and opened my mind to new ways of being
just to name a few. I also saw a funnel web spider right outside where I was camped, but surprisingly I wasn't scared - I thought it must have been far more scared of all the noise than I was of it.

Anyway, I feel a bit sad to be back in the city rat-race again - I was really starting to embrace my inner hippy haha plus that kind of inner and outer freedom is really hard to find. In the city people are rude and grumpy and self centered and judge mental. Oh well I guess the city does have it's benefits and it's luxuries too eh.

Bring it on city! I can take you!

Going away to be free

Hey there, so the Bob concert was great, Bob is quite a dancer!  Wearing my new Bob Dylan t-shirt today - represent haha.
Anyway this is just a quick post to say I'm going away for a few days to a festival so I won't be able to post, but in the meantime you should definately check out these amazing photographs from Life Magazine of High School fashion 1969 via Miss Moss. Seriously they are blowing my mind (thanks to Char for the link) look at her hair!

Hope you have a lovely Easter weekend.

She's got everything she needs, she's an artist, she don't look back

I am going to see Bob play tonight, it feels a bit surreal. This is a song I can't seem to get out of my head at the moment, I just love his love songs.

Tomboy

I'm sure not everyone would look at this outfit and think tomboy, but I do. I've been feeling a little tomboyish (ie. "bring it on world!" *rock'n'roll hand sign*) of late (though this is about as tomboy as I get haha) still it's fun: sneakers, baggy shorts, 70s shirts, and band tees. Yeah!

Outfit: shirt vintage, shorts thrifted, old holy sneakers, very old and very holy

Anyway...hope you had a good Monday,

Looking for a kiss

Today I am listening to the New york Dolls and wearing my NYD T-shirt. Haven't listed to them for quite some time so I'm enjoying it very much. Their music is so energetic and quirky and glammy and punk!
I got this tee when I saw them play live three years ago and it is one of my favourite tees of all time. I wear it alot and it's starting to look a bit worn out huh!

New York Dolls were part of the early NY Punk Scene at CBGB's club and dressed in drag to play their shows. I went through a big 70s punk phase when I was 16 and I really love these guys. They're kinda like a bad-ass version of the Rolling Stones haha. My favourite NYD's songs are: Looking For A Kiss, Jetboy & Frankenstein you should check them out...

Autumn skirts and Victorian ruffles

Afraid I don't have alot to say today other than that my essay is almost finished hooray!
Today was nice and cool, so the time was ripe to whip out my Victorian boots. I was trying to do 70s but when I tried on this blouse the puff sleaves turned out to be larger than expected, but I can't say I minded I also really like Victorian styling.
Hope your Sunday was delightful.

Outfit: ruffled blouse gift, 70s skirt vintage, boots vintage

26 degrees and sunshine

Today I felt happy, which is odd because I spent the day at the library studying. I think it was a combination of the nice weather and the outfit. I think I've been doing too many particular looks lately and I needed a break. Sometimes it just feels good to wear something a bit strange or quirky and set yourself apart. You can't really see but I'm wearing this sweet pair of earrings made of little forks.

Outfit: top vintage, shorts thrifted, shoes Sportsgirl, earrings from Hunter Gatherer.

And even though today was so sunny I ended up being surprisingly productive, which is an exception for me lately! I got everything done in record time which meant I had time to go out and enjoy the sun for a bit. I also bought a new cd - Best Coast and I love it. The cat on the cd looks like my kitty.

As far as I can tell this song is about my cat....

Shiny shoes

Today I did a spot of op shopping and came across this lovely pair of 70s silver pumps on sale for $3.50.

Characteristically 70s: chunky heels and thick soles!

The down side was they don't fit my big feet, but they were so ridiculously cheap that I brought them home anyway. I think I will try and put them on display somewhere in my room. It is very rare to come across 60s and 70s pumps in op shops, usually they sit in the windows of expensive vintage shops shining out at you as if to say "you can't afford us, and we probably won't fit you anyway."

I hope the rest of the week turns out to be as shiny as these shoes!
Have a nice Thursday.
